Finding Community

THE YARDS MAGAZINE

Art Direction / Fall 2018

In this compelling Fall Issue, we delve into thought-provoking stories that shed light on significant aspects of Edmonton’s past and present. Explore the complex history of racism in the city, unearthing the stories of unsung civil rights activists whose contributions have often gone unnoticed. We also dive into the rich history and promising future of the community league movement, a vital force in shaping neighborhoods. Additionally, we bring attention to the vibrant new Chinatown emerging in Downtown Edmonton. To complement these narratives, we have employed a captivating blend of figure-ground compositions and portrait silhouettes. Furthermore, we have incorporated traditional grunge effects using a scanner, lending an artistic and evocative touch to the visuals that amplify the impact of the stories being told.
